Yesterday's decision by the Supreme Court to grant immunity to Former President Trump has upended over 200 years of precedent and is a far cry from the democracy envisioned by our Founding Fathers.

Once again, Donald Trump’s extremist right wing court has come to his rescue, dramatically expanding the power of the presidency and removing any fear of prosecution for criminal acts committed using official power.

For the sake of the future of our country, we must do everything in our power to ensure that Trump and his extremist Republican allies are not in the halls of power. If elected to a second term, this decision has set the stage for an unchecked dictatorship by the Former President, who has already made clear his intentions to weaponize the Presidency to seek revenge on his political opponents.

As a Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee, I’m on the frontlines of protecting our democracy and fighting back against extremism. I’m willing to call out hypocrisy and lies and will hold individuals accountable for their misdeeds – whoever they are.

Donald Trump and his MAGA cronies are a danger to this country. We have already seen the consequences of extremism and authoritarianism sweeping our country and with more extreme decisions like these happening daily, we simply cannot continue down this path.

Now is not the time to get complacent – with our fundamental rights on the line, now is the time to stand up and get ready for the fight ahead.
