Justice Clarence Thomas has come under scrutiny for accepting and not disclosing millions of dollars in gifts and benefits from individuals who then have business before the court. The revelations include private jet travel, luxury vacations, and other perks amounting to over $4 million. Such entanglements create a glaring conflict of interest, undermining the principle of an impartial judiciary.

Thomas isn't alone. Justice Samuel Alito recently admitted to accepting lavish trips and gifts from a billionaire without disclosing them. He all but confessed to this action in an op-ed for the Wall Street Journal. His justification of these actions only underscores the urgent need for stricter ethical guidelines.

Representatives Jamie Raskin and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez have introduced legislation to stop this corruption. The High Court Gift Ban Act would prohibit Supreme Court justices from accepting gifts valued at more than $50, bringing them in line with members of Congress and other federal officials and helping to ensure that justices are held to the highest ethical standards.

We cannot compromise the highest court in the land through the influence of wealth and power. By passing the High Court Gift Ban Act, Congress can take a definitive step toward restoring the integrity of our judiciary and reaffirming our commitment to stopping the continuously growing corruption certain justices of the court engage in.
