Dear John,
Every year for the past three years, Amazon has reported more than 38,000 serious injuries in their warehouses. To Amazon, that’s just a number — but for someone who works on their feet, a serious back or knee injury can change the course of their lives. With Prime Day — one of Amazon’s busiest days — fast approaching, we know that warehouse workers’ health and safety is on the line.
Last year, Senator Bernie Sanders launched a Senate HELP Committee investigation into Amazon’s warehouse safety crisis. That report still hasn’t come out! We know that Amazon won’t protect workers on its own — it requires outside pressure from workers, organizers, elected officials, labor groups, and communities to hold them accountable. Join us in calling on the Senate to release their report before Prime Day. 👇 |
Across our network, workers, organizers, and allies have been sounding the alarm about Amazon’s growing safety crisis and fighting for ways to hold the corporation accountable: -
Last month, Amazon worker leaders with Missouri Workers Center joined the Athena Coalition in DC to help introduce a federal Warehouse Worker Protection Act that would prohibit dangerous work speed quotas.
-
Earlier this month, ALIGN and the New Yorkers for a Fair Economy coalition helped to secure the Warehouse Worker Injury Reduction Act, which will establish safety standards, require annual warehouse evaluations, and more.
-
And just a few days ago, thanks to Southern California warehouse workers speaking out, the California Labor Commissioner’s Office fined Amazon $5.9 million for violating the state’s Warehouse Worker Protection Act.
The Senate HELP Committee investigation is another important step in forcing Amazon to adopt common-sense safety measures for its workers. Add your name and tell the Senate to release the report before their summer recess in July! |
