AOC says she'll file articles of impeachment amid SCOTUS corruption crisis
In the wake of the horrifying SCOTUS immunity ruling that gives presidents absolute immunity for any criminal acts committed while in office — essentially legalizing Watergate, among other things — Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez promised to take swift action in response. “The Supreme Court has become consumed by a corruption crisis beyond its control,” the left-wing lawmaker wrote on X, formerly called Twitter. “Today’s ruling represents an assault on American democracy. It is up to Congress to defend our nation from this authoritarian capture. I intend on filing articles of impeachment upon our return.” While the articles are probably dead on arrival in the GOP-controlled House, they'll create a great opportunity to impress upon the American people just how dangerous SCOTUS' ruling really is — and how much rides on the 2024 election, which will likely decide who will appoint the next two Supreme Court Justices.

McConnell plots to use election-denier to retake Senate
Ruben Gallego for Senate: Mitch McConnell will stop at nothing to retake the Senate, even if that means giving power to one of the most radical of Trump’s election-denying, democracy-threatening acolytes, Kari Lake. Her election lies helped spark the mob attack on January 6th and has even called for gun violence if Trump gets convicted of his crimes. This November, she'll be running against star Democratic Congressman Ruben Gallego, and it's on all of us to help Ruben ensure that Kari Lake never sees the inside of the Senate. Will you chip in to protect our Senate majority and elect Ruben Gallego?
Biden issues a warning about the power of the presidency – and Trump – after Supreme Court’s immunity ruling
President Biden gave a speech on Monday evening denouncing the Supreme Court's immunity ruling for presidents. “There are no kings in America. Each, each of us is equal before the law. No one, no one is above the law, not even the president of the United States,” said Biden, who went on the make clear he would not be taking advantage of his newfound powers while Trump certainly would. “I know I will respect the limits of the presidential powers I’ve had for three-and-a-half years, but any president – including Donald Trump – will now be free to ignore the law,” Biden said. As if the stakes of the 2024 election couldn't get any higher before, it's very obvious that our democracy is literally on the chopping block now.

Florida prosecutors knew Epstein raped teenage girls 2 years before cutting deal, transcript shows
A judge released over 150 pages of testimony from notorious archpedophile Jeffery Epstein's 2006 jury trial, proving that prosecutors knew he was raping girls as young as 14 years old BEFORE handing him a sweetheart deal that got him just 1.5 years in the Palm Beach County Stockade — not real jail run by the Department of Corrections — which he would leave every day to go to his "office." It is a truly damning indictment of how the Republican-run state of Florida actively worked to protect and enable a dangerous sex criminal, as prosecutors worked to smear the victims and painted two girls molested by Jeffrey Epstein as prostitutes, drug addicts, thieves and liars. State prosecutors helped sabotage their own case against Epstein, calling in a police detective to testify that the girls bragged about drugs on sex on their social media, drank beer, partied and came from troubled families whose parents didn't seem to care about them. "It is so sad, the number of victims Epstein was able to abuse because the State carried water for him when they had a chance to put him away," said Brad Edwards, an attorney for some of Epstein's 125 known victims.

Judge declares mistrial in Karen Read murder trial after jury deadlocks on verdict
Karen Read, who is accused of killing her cop boyfriend with her car after a night of drinking, will go free — for now — after jurors could not reach a consensus. Read's lawyers argued that Read had dropped John O’Keefe at a house owned by fellow policeman Brian Albert, where she says O'Keefe was killed and evidence planted to make it look like she had done it. The police did themselves little favors by completely bungling the case, getting caught using red plastic cups to collect blood evidence and a leaf blower to try to clear away snow to reveal evidence. In yet another example of that protect and serve attitude cops are so famous for, lead investigator Michael Proctor, a state trooper, was found to have sent slurs and vulgar messages about Read to friends, family and supervisors, including writing that he hoped she would "kill herself" and that he'd searched her phone for nude photographs. On top of that, he was allowed to stay on the case despite having relationships with multiple witnesses. State prosecutors say they will attempt to retry the case, but have just one year to do so.
House GOP sues AG Garland for Biden interview audio
The Republican-led House Judiciary Committee on Monday sued Attorney General Merrick Garland to force the release of audio tapes of President Biden's interview with special counsel Robert Hur in his classified documents case in a transparent effort to throw more fuel on the fire of President Biden's age. The GOP has been trying for months to get their hands on these tapes, happy to chase the dragons of potential scandal as long as it means they don't have to, you know, do any of that "governing" stuff they're supposed to be doing. The Department of Justice said they are "reviewing the lawsuit and will respond in court at the appropriate time."

Hunter Biden sues Fox News for disseminating nude photos, videos of him
Hunter Biden filed a lawsuit against Fox News on Monday, alleging the conservative news outlet violated New York law by publishing nude photos and videos of him without his consent. In the lawsuit, Biden's lawyers alleged Fox News intentionally sought to "harass, annoy, alarm, and humiliate" him by publishing the images and "unjustly" enriched itself at his expense, which they definitely did do. It appears the right-wing's ghoulish obsession with Hunter Biden's penis and his struggles with drug addiction are finally coming back to bite them.
Israel releases Gaza hospital director Mohammed Abu Selmia, detained for 7 months
The release of Dr. Selmia with no charges raises huge questions about Israel's claims that the al-Shifa hospital was being used as a Hamas command center and the IDF's two-week long raid into the facility, where dozens of civilians were killed and medical workers and journalists were among those detained and brutalized by Israeli forces. Dr. Selmia told reporters that the Israelis tortured him while he was held in captivity. Following his release, the IDF announced a new evacuation of the city of Khan Younis, indicating that the Israelis were forced to return to areas they had previously claimed were cleared of Hamas forces. The imminent attack is a major threat to further hamper Palestinians’ access to much-needed potable water. U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said the new evacuation order “just shows yet again that no place is safe in Gaza” for Palestinian civilians. “It’s another stop in this deadly circular movement that the population in Gaza has to undergo on a regular basis,” he said in a statement calling for a cease-fire.
Voters kick all the Republican women out of the South Carolina Senate
Three women Republican Senators voted to stop a total abortion ban — and in return, voters sent all three of them packing. Now there will be no women in the Senate — and since committee chairmanships are doled out on seniority, this means that it could be decades before a woman ever has any real influence in the state Senate. South Carolina is turning back the clock to the 1850s...and it seems like the voters want it that way.
