Hi - it's Mark Ruffalo, actor and activist.
I wanted to make sure you saw this email from Morgan Harper, a bold progressive Democrat for U.S. Congress. I endorsed her because we need more leaders willing to challenge power, fight for working people, boldly fight the climate crisis, and think big to solve the coronavirus healthcare and economic crisis.
I hope you can watch her inspiring Zoom with PCCC members and donate to help her win a congressional seat in less than two weeks. (You can also help by making calls to voters.) Hope you and your family are staying safe. -- Mark

Friend, this is Morgan Harper -- a candidate for Congress in Ohio and former senior advisor at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. My election's in less than 2 weeks!
Last night, I joined PCCC members on a really fun Zoom video call and discussed all sorts of issues -- from a Green New Deal to Medicare For All to corporate corruption of our political system. We even discussed how to properly talk about those issues to connect with working-class people in Ohio, including in our black community. (You can watch it here.)
The New York Times compared my candidacy to AOC's. With a strong grassroots campaign, we out-fundraised my incumbent opponent (who is funded by corporate PACs) for much of last year. And we mobilized hundreds of volunteers. Then...the coronavirus changed our campaign overnight.
Days before our March 17 election, our election was pushed back over a month and became all vote-by-mail. That was the right decision. But it meant we had to start from scratch to fund our grassroots campaign.
You probably want to know a little bit about me...
I lived in a foster home as an infant. I then was adopted and raised on the east side of Columbus, Ohio -- primarily by my mother, who immigrated from Trinidad and was a public school teacher.
I learned early on that who your parents are, if they have money, and what zip code you live in can really determine the outcomes of your life. And especially being someone who's adopted, that just struck me as fundamentally unfair. It put me on a mission to do something about everybody getting a fair shot and also moved me to understand the systems that have created this reality.
So I pursued a career in public policy, became a lawyer, and worked at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau -- set up by Elizabeth Warren. That's where I really came to understand how government works.
One big takeaway from my time in Washington is that the big reason why people are skeptical of government is that we have had a generation of corporate-driven political leadership. Our system's overwhelmed by corporate influence. It impacts everything from our health care to our climate -- and whether families get a fair shot.
(You can also sign up to join other volunteers and contact key voters by phone. Put your own social distancing time to good use! Ads are important, but these calls are our key to victory.)
We know our community is preoccupied with lost jobs, upcoming bills, unstable housing, and caring for children and elder relatives under a stay-at-home health order. Together, with your help, we’ll make sure that no one is disenfranchised by the new voting process during this pandemic.
Thank you to the PCCC for your support! Let’s win this.
