In Unity and Prayer: Angelenos Call for Peace on the Steps of City Hall
**
June 28, 2024 | Los Angeles City Hall
------------------------------------------------------------
Dear John,
We would like to thank everyone who endured the heat and joined us for Friday’s Call to Prayer & Peace Rally for a Ceasefire at Los Angeles City Hall. The rally marked an unprecedented moment in Los Angeles, as Angelenos of all faiths and backgrounds came together to mourn the deaths of over 38,000 Palestinians – killed by the ongoing genocide being inflicted across Gaza at the hands of the Israeli government – and to call for an end to the relentless violence and persecution that has faced the Palestinians for over eight months. The heartfelt prayers and solidarity expressed by community members and leaders alike were a testament to our collective commitment to justice and compassion.
Following the rally, I delivered a khutbah, reminding us of the collective power we hold as communities of conscience in the fight against global injustice.
"They must stop using religion as a cover for this crime against humanity, and start using the words that we hear etched into the walls of City Hall where it says even the humblest and the great will be treated with equality under the law. That is nonsense until we see equality done by restoring human dignity on this issue."
– Salam Al-Marayati, President, Muslim Public Affairs Council
