John, the Supreme Court continues to prove just how unjust the court system is.
In
Trump vs. the United States, SCOTUS just ruled that
Trump has “absolute immunity” from criminal prosecution for all “official acts” he took while in office.
“Official acts” is broad and confusing — leaving this open to interpretation and giving Trump and all future presidents the type of leeway that is beyond dangerous.
The conservative majority in the illegitimate Supreme Court is going to chip away at our rights and protect Trump — and as we’ve seen so abundantly clear, white supremacy never sleeps. Together, they can continue to reverse any and all of the progress we’re fighting for while twisting the law to protect far-right, corrupt officials like Trump.
It’s never been more clear or urgent. We need court reform now. Add your name to call on Congress to expand the Supreme Court.
This decision is setting a dangerous precedent that threatens our very democracy. A president abusing power has never been easier with this new legal standing.
Black people are already most vulnerable to systems woven from white supremacy — as we’ve seen in the climate crisis, healthcare system, abortion care, housing, and just about everything else. This lack of accountability, checks, and balances within the executive branch is EXACTLY what white supremacists like Trump and other officials alike want.
The court system is broken and in a corruption crisis. We’ve said it many times before — the Supreme Court must be expanded.
We’re not going to watch our rights continue to be eroded by this illegitimate court.
