Jack, the IRS's effectiveness is crucial for a fair and functional tax system. With fewer resources, the IRS will struggle to provide timely and accurate services to taxpayers, enforce tax laws, and close the tax gap.

House Republicans have proposed cuts to the IRS that will significantly undermine its ability to serve American taxpayers effectively and defund the newly available free online filing system. This program greatly impacts American taxpayers, as we can now avoid getting ripped off by the big tax prep companies that routinely upcharge for unnecessary services.

The motivation behind these cuts includes the GOP's constant backing of the wealthy over working Americans. Funding cuts to the IRS would greatly reduce recently launched crackdowns on wealthy individuals, partnerships, and large companies' tax evasion efforts by the IRS. Collecting taxes from the wealthy takes more resources, so reducing those resources would only benefit them.

The proposed cuts to the IRS are not just a budgetary issue but a direct attack on American taxpayers to benefit the wealthiest. These cuts will exacerbate the federal deficit, reduce the effectiveness of tax collection, and remove essential services for low-income taxpayers.

Congress cannot pass these proposed cuts and must protect the IRS's ability to serve the public–not the wealthy elite.
