John — today’s Supreme Court decision is nothing short of shocking: Donald Trump now has presumed immunity from federal prosecution for his official actions during his presidency. This marks the first time SCOTUS has recognized any form of presidential immunity from prosecution.

This ruling means that the far-right Supreme Court has given up its constitutional duty as a check and balance on the executive branch, a move that threatens to undermine the stability of our federal system. And let’s be clear: This is a brazen attempt to aid Donald Trump’s subversion of our democracy.

But what does this mean for the climate fight?

The Court just gave Donald Trump the go-ahead to use the office of the presidency for his own gain if he’s re-elected in November.

We can bet that’ll give Big Oil CEOs and other corporate interests unfettered access to line presidential pockets and undo all the progress we’ve made stopping them.

Trump’s ties to Big Oil and his willingness to sell out our environment are no secret. He’s already been caught soliciting a billion-dollar bribe from fossil fuel executives in exchange for gutting hard-won environmental protections — from progress on electric vehicles and wind energy to giving the industry more offshore drilling leases and relaxing regulations.

Now, with the Supreme Court’s blessing, he’ll be able to engage in corrupt dealings with little fear of being held accountable if he retakes the White House.

If we don’t take action, Trump and his Big Oil allies will steamroll over the progress we've made in fighting the climate crisis.

This ruling makes it clear: We must organize, mobilize, and fight back harder than ever before. We need to build a firewall of pro-climate champions in state and local elected officials across the country. We MUST stop Trump and derail his dirty deals before it’s too late.
