NIGHT NIGHT
All The Crap I Do To Sleep As A Perimenopausal Woman

“When you decide to become a parent, you know there are many months — possibly years! — ahead when you won’t get a good night’s sleep. Now that I’m the parent of an actual teenager, his sleeping is no longer an issue (except for the fact that he now wants to stay up later than me),” writes Janine Annett. ”But I’ve never been a great sleeper, and now there’s perimenopause in the mix. That means I often struggle to fall asleep, wake up in the middle of the night, or wake up early — sometimes all in the same evening/morning!”

So she’s developed a whole series of coping strategies… and I bet you’ll find some of them useful.

Announcing Scary Mommy Book Club’s July Selection: THE ROM-COMMERS by Katherine Center
Announcing Scary Mommy Book Club’s July Selection: THE ROM-COMMERS by Katherine Center

Summer is in full swing, and what I wanted to do for July’s book club pick is share with you the best summer romance possible that I could find this year. Here’s what I landed on: The Rom-Commers by Katerine Center. I devoured this book over two days, and it reminded me of past favorites of mine like Nora Goes Off Script and Beach Read.

Here’s the set up: Emma Wheeler wants to be a screenwriter, but it’s impossible because she’s caretaking for both her little sister and her disabled dad. But when she gets the opportunity of a lifetime to help world-famous writer Charlie Yates re-rewrite a rom-com script over six weeks, she finds a way to leave everything behind, just for a little while, to see what happens. Of course, when she arrives in LA, she finds out that Charlie is a jerk, the script is a complete disaster, and she doesn’t even have a place to live. But Emma doesn’t quit that easily. This is her only chance to pursue her dream, and she’s going to go for it. And along the way, she might — okay, she totally does — find herself in her own real-life rom-com.
