John,
We’re not going to sugarcoat it: we’re worried about the 2024 election.
Between last week’s presidential debate and low turnout in Presidential primaries earlier this year, our work to Get Out the Vote is more important than ever.
This is why we’re expanding our “Vote for Human Needs” team―to reach voters in the swing states of Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, reminding them of how critical this election is and urging them to turn out and vote for human needs.
We’re contending not just with a lack of voter enthusiasm, but also with voter suppression laws that make voting more difficult for Black and brown voters, young voters, voters with disabilities, LGBTQ+ voters, low-income voters, and voters in rural areas. Last year, 16 states enacted 29 voter suppression laws that make vote-by-mail less accessible through stricter voter ID requirements, shortening the period for requesting or casting a mail ballot, banning the use of ballot drop boxes, and criminalizing the act of returning a mail ballot on behalf of someone else.1
We’re working to ensure that every eligible voter has the resources to vote.

There is too much at stake in this election to sit on the sidelines. That’s why, tomorrow, we’re hosting our next letter-writing party to voters in swing states in conjunction with our partners at Vote Forward.
This election may very well determine whether the right to vote is sacrosanct in this country, whether we continue to give tax handouts to the ultra-wealthy at the expense of vulnerable families and communities, and whether or not we will finally have a path to citizenship for DACA recipients.
Every one of us has a choice: Do we want to live in a country that makes health care more affordable and reduces the cost of prescription drugs for millions of people? Do we want to live in a country that makes sure people can put food on the table and a roof over their heads? Do we want to live in a country with humane immigration and asylum policies? Or do we want to live in a country that stokes fear and division across racial, economic, and political party lines?
Voters are rightly concerned about all that is at stake in this presidential and congressional election. And that’s why, instead of worrying, we’re taking action to reach and turn out infrequent voters between now and Election Day.
