John, This is for the whole ballgame, folks.
Every race – local, state, and national – is now a critical barrier between the rule of law and "anything goes."
With the news out this morning of the latest decision by the Supreme Court to give full immunity to presidents for any official act they commit while they are president, our democracy is on the precipice.
In the past week, this Supreme Court has weakened abortion rights, made corruption harder to prosecute, weakened the authority of federal agencies to carry out the law, gave the green light to big polluters and a free pass to insurrectionists, and made it a crime for the homeless to sleep outside.
It's now up to us to say, "We will not comply."
Our state and local elected officials have a great deal of power to decide whether they will arrest the homeless for having no shelter, whether they will prosecute local government officials for fraud, bribery, or other forms of corruption, and whether they will stop women from crossing state lines to seek an abortion.
Action is the only option.
In solidarity,
Sarah Long, and the entire team at Movement Labs and Contest Every Race
