On Tuesday, June 25, TPUSA Faith Contributor and Pastor John Amanchukwu visited the Washoe County School Board meeting to bring awareness to explicit literature available to students in district libraries.
The boardroom, lobby, and overflow room were PACKED with supporters of Amanchukwu’s message — holding signs with slogans such as “No X-rated books in schools” and “We do not co parent with school boards.”
Amanchukwu read sexually explicit passages from “American Psycho,” a book available in three district libraries. After reading the first passage, Amanchukwu was cut off by a board member who warned him not to use any profanity during public comment.
Amanchukwu continued reading until he was cut off AGAIN by a board member who said, “Time, we’re gonna adjourn,” before all of the board members stood up and abruptly walked out of the meeting to booing and shouts from the frustrated crowd.
Pastor John continued talking to community members in the room: “What you just saw is a bunch of tyrants leave the school board meeting because they don’t want to hear vulgarity in a book because I read what kids get to read in three schools.”
The board members only resumed the meeting after Pastor John left the board room. However, several other community members read from other explicit books in the district, including “Looking for Alaska” and “All Boys Aren’t Blue.”
We’d like to thank Dr. Bob for his contributions that allow Pastor John to pursue stories that shed light on corruption within the public education system.
