Instead of addressing the critical issues facing our nation, such as the climate crisis, reproductive freedom, and healthcare, Republican members of Congress prioritize symbolic gestures, kissing up to former President and convicted felon Donald Trump.

Congress has become increasingly unproductive, passing fewer laws than at any point in recent history. In the past year alone, a record low of just 27 bills were enacted. This decline in legislative output can be attributed to partisanship and infighting, which have stalled critical reforms to Medicare, and Social Security policies.

The House of Representatives has been inundated with bills and resolutions celebrating Trump, such as placing his portrait on the $500 bill, awarding him a Congressional Gold Medal, and renaming national landmarks after him. These actions do nothing to improve the lives of working families and only serve to divert attention from pressing matters such as inflation, healthcare, and climate change.

Republican members of Congress need to shift their focus from seeking Trump's approval to addressing the needs of their constituents. The emphasis must be placed on governance that has a tangible impact on the lives of Americans, rather than on symbolic honors for Trump.
