Michigan has been activated for the Federal Emergency Management Agency?s (FEMA) Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) Swift Current program.? The Swift Current program makes grants available for communities to help mitigate flood damages at privately owned property.? The local jurisdiction would have to apply for and implement the grant for participating property owners. A Swift Current Informational Bulletin [ [link removed] ] has been developed for local officials.

To apply, the local jurisdiction must have active participation in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), and the local jurisdiction must have a FEMA approved Hazard Mitigation Plan or adopted their county?s plan to participate in Swift Current.

Swift Current allows the following hazard mitigation project types to reduce risk and provide mitigation for properties that have Severe Repetitive Loss or Repetitive Loss:

* Property Acquisition and Demolition or Relocation
* Elevation
* Retrofitting
* Mitigation Reconstruction
* Dry Flood Proofing

The local jurisdiction?s first step in applying will be to complete the?Swift Current Notice of Interest [ [link removed] ]?or reach out to Michigan State Police, Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division [email protected] by July 15th, 2024.?

The local jurisdiction will need to complete?an Information Sharing Access Agreement (ISAA) form. The ISAA request will be submitted to FEMA and is required for the release of property data, including addresses, for properties that have been deemed eligible for Swift Current.
