Dear John — As an organization that was born online, we appreciate the incredible capacity social media provides It Gets Better to reach and connect with thousands of LGBTQ+ young people every year. Yet, despite its proven effectiveness in community building and identity exploration, social media also brings with it the increased likelihood of cyberbullying and a glut of misinformation. At It Gets Better, we believe that the benefits of social media outweigh its darker realities – but it is never a bad idea to take a break. Last year, we launched our digital respite immediately following Pride season to give our fabulous staff an opportunity to rest and enjoy the summer before jumping into back-to-school season, and it proved so effective that we’re doing it again this year! Consider joining us by pausing the endless scrolling. We need you at your best, as we press forward to create a world where all LGBTQ+ youth are free to live
equally, connect with their community, and know their power as individuals. We will be back July 8, ready to uplift, empower, and connect the next generation of LGBTQ+ leaders -- helping them navigate a future with limitless possibilities! We love you – and we’ll be right back!
