Ending the fossil fuel era
The climate emergency needs big, bold ideas and meaningful action to tackle it at its roots. A Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty would provide a much-needed global plan to phase out coal, oil and gas in a fast, fair and managed way.
The call for a treaty has been spearheaded by some of the world’s most climate-vulnerable countries, including Pacific Island nations like Fiji and Vanuatu which have seen the impacts of climate change at first hand for decades. Now they also have the support of others, including Colombia – like the UK, an oil producing country – which sees that there is now a stark choice between fossil fuels and life. We need the next UK government to do the same and to back a fossil fuel treaty.
