Frankly, I’m worried. I’m alarmed by the prospect of a Trump presidency and another 2 years under a GOP-led House. Think about the irreparable damage they would do to our country. We simply cannot let it happen!
That’s why, as you’ve probably noticed, I’ve been spending a lot of time on my new Stop Project 2025 Task Force, which is getting national attention. Working closely with 14 outstanding congressional colleagues and over a dozen leading outside advocacy groups, I’m doing everything I can to spotlight this 920-page MAGA “war plan” for destroying American democracy, rolling back fundamental rights, and denying civil liberties. Project 2025 is sweeping, radical, destructive, and make no mistake: Trump and his allies plan to implement much of it in the first 180 days if they win in November.
But we can stop them, John. And it starts with making sure we have a Democratic majority in the House. We need to flip just four seats to make that happen. I know we can do it. I’ve been campaigning for dozens of outstanding Democrats in key races around the country. I’ve seen the quality of our candidates, the integrity and passion that drives them, and the strong response they’re getting in their districts.
Today is an important FEC deadline, John. Our fundraising totals will be publicly reported for everyone to see, so we must have a strong showing – not just for my own re-election, but to show that Democratic leaders like me will keep stepping up and supporting great candidates in battleground districts, so that we can defeat extremism and stop Project 2025. What’s behind this sinister scheme by MAGA plutocrats and Christian nationalist fanatics at the Heritage Foundation? Why are over 100 other rightwing groups, including designated hate groups, working closely with them on Project 2025? Because they see the writing on the wall: their agenda of scorched-earth culture wars, corporate greed, and replacing our secular democracy with an authoritarian theocracy is increasingly unpopular with Americans everywhere. In a functioning democracy, they wouldn’t stand a chance. That’s exactly why they’re resorting to anti-democratic means – clearing away institutional checks and balances, eviscerating the federal workforce, installing MAGA loyalists in place of the civil service, and invoking emergency authorities to bypass Congress – to lock-in their agenda.
This threat is deadly serious and immediate, John. They’re laying the groundwork for Donald Trump, an aspiring dictator, to be a real one. But we can stop them. We know what they are doing, we are sounding the alarm, and we are united in our mission to save our Democracy by preventing a Trump presidency and a MAGA Republican Congress.
But this is an all-hands moment, and we really need your support.
