“The first Pride was a riot.”
Happy Fourth of July! Stay safe and have fun while celebrating our nation’s independence this week. It is officially election season as primary ballots arrive and early voting begins. To ensure a smooth voting process, check your registration status to be ballot-ready ([link removed]) . We are fortunate to have a robust vote-by-mail system—so be sure to complete and return your ballot as soon as possible!
As a continuation of last week's water discussion, an Ad-Hoc Committee on Water Security convened in the Senate on Friday. I attended the meeting, which featured an overview of policy on basin management areas (SB 1221 ([link removed]) ) and testimony from the Arizona Farm Bureau Administration and other agricultural stakeholders. This meeting served as a part recap, a part plea from the months-long culmination of negotiations with the stakeholders on the policy.
With the legislature adjourned, I have spent more time knocking on doors and talking to voters. Despite the soaring temperatures and muggy days, I love canvassing and conversing with the people in our district. The main topics of interest from constituents are housing costs, abortion rights, public education funding, and overcoming extremism on the ballot this year.
I am curious to hear what your priorities are. Completing the 20-second survey below will provide anonymous feedback that I can share with all of you next week.
With kindness,
Sarah

Did you catch the Presidential debate on Thursday? I was excited to join over 100 Biden-Harris supporters at two local watch parties in the district.
The energy was high at both events. While President Biden could have used some of that energy in his responses, Trump’s inability to convey even the truth was evident and alarming.
Actions speak louder than words, and the contrasting objectives of these two administrations starkly highlight what is at stake in the upcoming election.

Wrapping up Pride month, we honor those who bravely fought back against discrimination on the anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall riots.
We have come so far since then in the push for LGTBQ+ rights. While there is much success to be proud of, we continue to work so that people can love who they want and be who they are. I stand in this fight for equality alongside the Human Rights Campaign and Stonewall Democrats.

** LD 5 Democrats
------------------------------------------------------------
The LD 5 Board hosted a fantastic civic engagement event that brought candidates and voters together to talk about their races.
The event featured candidates running for:
* Congressional Districts 1 and 3
* County Supervisor District 1
* County candidates for Superintendent, Recorder, Attorney, Assessor, and Sheriff
* State House and Senate
* Conservation Water Board, Justice of the Peace, and more!
It was so much fun to see and connect with everyone. Thank you LD 5 for supporting the candidates, and to all who took the time to attend!
We weren’t joking about the financial deadline crunch tonight.
Any amount is appreciated!
