John, it’s Valerie Foushee.

Whenever things get tough, or things look particularly hopeless, I like to turn to my favorite song, “Love’s in Need of Love Today” by Stevie Wonder.

The lyrics ring true even now, almost 50 years after its release:

Hate's goin' 'round
Breaking hate's tried to break my heart many times

In this era of divided government and extreme partisanship, it can sometimes feel like there’s only hate. I know I’m not the only one who gets frustrated in times of gridlock.

But what keeps me going in this work, is a commitment to building a better future for our children, and a better life for our communities. If you send me back to Congress, that’s what I’ll continue to do.

My FEC fundraising deadline is just a few hours away, and I still need to raise $2,398 to help close the gap. If you’re with me and committed to fighting through the gridlock, will you give $ or more before midnight?

I’ll end this email with the final lyric of my favorite song — and my guiding principle in life: Just give the world love.
