John, I have good news and very bad news… Keep reading.

The good news is that I have been elected as a national committeeman of the Idaho Democratic Party and one of our delegates to the national convention in Chicago. It will be an honor to take part in the nomination of President Biden this August.

I won these positions because our party knows that I am a respected and trustworthy leader to represent Idaho. Come November, I plan to prove it when I flip ID-02’s House seat and kick out Mike Simpson.

To get it done, I need your help TODAY.

The current FEC fundraising quarter ends at midnight tonight, and this is the most important deadline of this campaign. Our contributions up through tonight will be the only hard data to reflect whether or not we have the resources to win in November.

Will you show your commitment to removing the MAGA threat from Congress and strengthening democracy in Idaho and our federal government by RUSHING a donation to our campaign?

If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:

John, the bad news is that the Supreme Court just pulled the rug out from beneath our government. On Friday, they overturned the Chevron doctrine and stole federal agencies’ ability to impose laws passed by Congress.

I wrote to you about the Chevron doctrine in January, and I’ll attach that email below in case you want to refresh your memory.

The short version is this: for the last four decades, we have trusted qualified experts at agencies like the EPA to decide how to do their job and implement new laws and regulations in their field – until now.

The extremists on the Supreme Court just took that power away from the executive branch and gave it to the judiciary.

From now on, politically motivated judges – instead of doctors, scientists, or industry leaders – will control our health and safety standards, climate action, drug safety, workers’ protections, and a dozen other policies that impact our families and our future.

John, you can’t make this stuff up.

Democrats have a bill ready that could resolve this in the next Congress if we take back the House and keep the Senate this year. It’s called the Judicial Ethics and Anti-Corruption Act, and it would hold Supreme Court justices accountable for the first time in history.

When I get to Congress, we will finally have the chance to fix our country AND our courts.

There’s not a lot that I find hope in these days besides the possibility of flipping this seat and ending Republicans’ deathgrip on democracy. If you can spare ANYTHING today to make it possible, please help me fight for Idaho and our nation.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

-David

Subject: 40 years and a son’s revenge

John,

We need to talk about a sketchy Supreme Court justice, and this time, I don’t mean Clarence Thomas.

I’m talking about Neil Gorsuch – and his mother.

A headline graphic from CNN Politics with the title “Neil Gorsuch has a grudge against federal agencies. He holds their fate in his hands.” Behind the headline are two photos side-by-side of Justice Neil Gorsuch and his mother, Anne Gorsuch.

This has the potential to be a long and complicated email, so I’ll put the bottom line up front:

41 years ago a fanatical, far-right administrator heading up the Environmental Protection Agency laid the framework to undo every federal regulation that protects everyday Americans. SCOTUS stopped these shenanigans with what became known as the Chevron doctrine.

Now, her son sits on that same SCOTUS bench, and he’s here to finish the job.

Justice Neil Gorsuch is as corrupt as they come, and his life-long loyalty to a Republican party determined to dismantle the federal government has never been in doubt.

Right now, SCOTUS is hearing two cases that will completely DERAIL the ability of any federal agency to protect the interests of American families – if these justices-for-hire rule the way their bankrollers want them to.

Anne Gorsuch served as head of the EPA under Ronald Reagan, where she slashed and burned so many regulations protecting clean air and water that Congress held her in contempt and forced her resignation.

For 40 years, the SCOTUS ruling that came down just after her removal, Chevron USA, Inc. v. Natural Resources Defense Council, has upheld our regulations and allowed our civil servants to do their jobs to protect everyday Americans from another Anne Gorsuch.

But across those same four decades, corporations fought tooth and nail to dismantle ‘the Chevron doctrine’ and clear the way for the total anarchy of unregulated, crony capitalism.

And it all may now be undone by a far-right supermajority on a packed Supreme Court – led by Justice Neal Gorsuch, sitting in a stolen seat, and finishing his mother’s destructive legacy.

John, I don’t need to tell you that our Supreme Court is suffering from a crisis of legitimacy. From luxury vacations and outright bribes paid by billionaire benefactors, to handsome stock portfolios built on the backs of the cases they decide, all the way to fast-tracked careers straight into the halls of power – the stench of corruption reeking from today’s Supreme Court is impossible to ignore.

Democrats in Congress have a solution. The Judicial Ethics and Anti-Corruption Act is a judicial code of ethics and standards of conduct that would hold Supreme Court justices to the same ethical standards as anyone else in a position of public trust.

But Republicans are happy to let the corruption continue. That’s why I’m running to flip ID-02 and help take back the House majority in November.

When I serve in Congress, I will fight to pass the Judicial Ethics Act and pursue every means within our legislative power to expand the Supreme Court and break the right-wing supermajority.

If you agree that Congress needs to rein in corruption in our nation’s highest court, please give $25, $50, or whatever you can to my campaign today so we can WIN in November.

No more weekend getaways on private jets with billionaires. No more high-paying lobbying jobs for friends and family in exchange for whispering in the justice’s ear. No more Wall Street insider trading on secret knowledge of Supreme Court business.

It’s time we remind SCOTUS that they serve the PEOPLE, not the other way around.

Your future congressman,

David Roth

David Roth is a single, gay dad running for Idaho’s Second Congressional District. We’re going up against a GOP incumbent who has been in this seat for 25 years. It’s time for change in Idaho, and our grassroots campaign is building on the momentum that began in David’s race for U.S. Senate last cycle. The GOP is not planning to defend this seat, so we plan to take it from them and help Democrats retake the House majority next year. We’d love your support to build a solid campaign to bring progress to Idaho and the country.
