Texas voters don’t have any time to waste. Last week, the Wisconsin GOP forced voters to put their health and safety at risk just to cast a vote, and Texas Republicans will do the same unless we take action now.
This is why I joined the entire Texas Democratic delegation to urge Governor Abbott and Secretary of State Hughs to implement a statewide no-excuse vote-by-mail program.
This gives all Texans a fair shot in the electoral process, without risking exposure to coronavirus in large crowds and long lines. But we can’t rely on the governor to protect Texas voters after what happened in Wisconsin. We must act now - help me demand a national vote-by-mail system for ALL voters >>> [[link removed]]
We’ve seen these same partisan vote-by-mail tactics hurt Texans in the past. In 2016, Republicans suppressed underserved communities by forcing them to pay for ballot access. But I fought to provide the Postal Service the funding needed to cover their postage. Now Republicans are back at it again.
Attorney General Ken Paxton threatened to prosecute Texans who vote by mail in order to protect themselves and their families during this pandemic. This is irresponsible.
In the middle of this public health crisis, it is more important than ever that everyone is able to exercise their right to vote.
