Team,
Tonight, we’re facing our *very first* public end-of-quarter fundraising deadline.
My team and I have set a goal of raising another $50,000 in June before the public fundraising deadline, and I need your help to make it happen.
I hope you’ll also give me a minute to explain why, and what this week’s Supreme Court ruling on EMTALA means for our country:
The Supreme Court just ruled that Idaho may not enforce its abortion ban – which threatened physicians with jail time – when abortion is necessary to save a patient’s life. This is a small win for pregnant patients.
But it’s hardly the end of the fight: As Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson wrote, it is a delay. It allows litigation to move forward in Idaho, and does not restore patients’ fundamental right to make their own medical decisions with their doctors and without the interference of politicians.
I’m one of those doctors whose treatment options have been affected. I know what it is like to have politicians without any medical training dictating your medical care, because it’s exactly what we dealt with here in Wisconsin, thanks to a law passed before the Civil War.
As an OB/GYN, I took an oath to do no harm. It's why, when the Supreme Court struck down Roe two years ago, I successfully sued to end that law and make abortion legal again in Wisconsin.
So believe me when I say that we can’t rest on this week's decision. We need to take this fight to the next step and pass federal protections for reproductive rights so that right-wing politicians can’t decide our medical care.
I would be the FIRST pro-choice OB/GYN in Congress, and I've proven I'm not afraid to fight for what's best for patients. I've done it as a doctor — now I'm ready to do it in Washington. Please split a $24 donation between me and WisDems to reach our $50,000 fundraising goal ahead of tonight's public deadline.
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will process immediately as a split contribution between the Democratic Party of Wisconsin and Kristin Lyerly.
