Workers first.
We are going to get through the coronavirus outbreak together. If you are experiencing symptoms or are looking for more information, you can visit the website of the CDC [www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/about/index.html] or the Illinois Department of Health [www.dph.illinois.gov/topics-services/diseases-and-conditions/diseases-a-z-list/coronavirus]. We are closely monitoring the situation and its effects on the people of Illinois and our nation as we work together to keep our families and communities safe.
John,
Coronavirus relief money must go to the workers and families who need it most - not to pad the profits of corporate executives and shareholders. But Donald Trump is purging government watchdogs installed by Congress, whose job is to ensure that our hard-earned tax dollars aren’t being used for a corporate slush fund.

Millions of people are losing their jobs and can’t afford to put food on the table - but corporate executives would rather use their bailout money to juice their profits with stock buybacks and corporate executive bonuses. The rich get richer and workers and families get left behind.
We saw this happen after the 2008 corporate bailouts. It’s critical that we mandate all taxpayer-funded bailout money goes towards keeping businesses open and putting workers first - including a living wage, paid sick leave, pensions, and health benefits. We can’t afford to lose this fight.
This isn’t the first time I’ve taken on greedy corporate executives. Last year, I introduced the Reward Work Act to ban open-market stock buybacks and give workers a voice in their company. I also authored a letter urging that protections for workers and consumers be included in any airline industry relief bill.
I know that if we don’t act quickly, relief money will be siphoned away from the workers who need it most, and into the pockets of the wealthy and well-connected.
