The link we sent out yesterday for our Mass Organizing Zoom did not work. Click here to register for our zoom, which will be held at 1 PM EST on Monday (tomorrow). Please note, we are nearing our 1,000 person participant cap, so sign up as soon as you can!

Good morning Housing Not Handcuffs supporters,

On Friday, the Supreme Court shamefully ruled that Grants Pass and cities and states across the country can arrest or ticket people for sleeping outside when they have nowhere to go. Let us be clear: this will make homelessness worse.

In a country founded on and sustained by racism, this ruling will have even more dire consequences for Black people, Indigenous people, and other people of color who are disproportionally impacted by both homelessness and the criminal legal system.

This inhumane ruling will make the lives of our neighbors who have no choice but to sleep outside even harder. Still, the Supreme Court was never going to solve homelessness. That’s why we are calling on President Biden and Congress to make a downpayment towards the long-term goal of solving homelessness by investing at least $356 billion in the coming year and continuing funding in future years to ensure everybody has a safe place to call home.

Below are three things you can do right now to take action and learn more about the impacts of the Supreme Court Decision.

  1. Email your elected officials demanding funding for housing
  2. Join us Monday at 1 PM for a Mass Organizing Zoom
    • The Law Center is hosting a mass organizing call on Monday at 1 PM EST.  Join us to discuss this decision and learn about our next steps to ensure that everybody has a safe place to call home. Click here to RSVP.
  3. Join the Housing not Handcuffs campaign to stay up to date about the next steps in our fight for housing and other proven solutions to homelessness.

The Supreme Court’s ruling will make it even easier for cities and states to arrest or fine homeless people for sleeping outside, which will make homelessness worse. We need your help to grow our resources to fight back harder than before! Show your support today by making a one-time or recurring gift of $35.
