Evan here from Fight for the Future. First of all, how are you and your loved ones doing?

Hi John

Evan here from Fight for the Future. First of all, how are you and your loved ones doing?

I'm really asking. Yes, this is a mass email to our supporters, but we are a small team, and if you hit reply, I’ll see your response. We could all use a little more human connection right now.

Half of our team is currently homeschooling young kids while also working from home. One member of our team already tested positive for COVID-19 and is recovering slowly, and we have a number of loved ones who are at risk or who are working as healthcare professionals on the front lines. So we know how challenging these times are for everyone.

We also know that right now, our work is more important than ever before.

The Coronavirus pandemic poses an existential threat not only to public health, but to human rights and basic civil liberties. Access to a free, open, and uncensored Internet has always been important—now it’s a matter of life and death.

But we have a problem. So many people have lost their jobs, or are struggling financially right now. We’ve been hearing nearly every day from supporters who truly believe in the work, but have had to cancel their monthly donations.

We’re an intentionally small team that operates on a tiny budget—a fraction of the size of organizations like EFF or the ACLU—so we are used to being scrappy, lean, and mean. But we are also really dependent on those small, monthly, grassroots donations to make our high impact campaigns for Internet freedom and human rights possible.

So I’m writing to ask you directly. If you’re lucky enough to still be employed right now and collecting a salary, please consider becoming a monthly contributor to Fight for the Future—knowing that so many others won’t be able to during this crisis. Will you step up and be a hero when we need you most?

Yes, I’ll become a monthly donor to support Internet freedom and human rights.

Sorry, I can’t donate monthly, but I’ll make a one-time donation right now.

If you can’t support right now, we totally understand. If you’ve been laid off or are struggling financially, our hearts go out to you.

Please know that we are doing everything in our power to fight to make sure that people are taken care of right now, that our privacy and security is protected, and especially that EVERYONE has access to the Internet at a time when it’s clearly an essential service.

Wishing you the best during these extraordinary times,

Evan at Fight for the Future

P.S. Fight for the Future is not in danger of shutting down, thank goodness, but we are facing a truly challenging fundraising shortfall. If we can’t make up the difference, we’ll have to scale back our campaigns at a time when they’re so, so urgent. We’re looking for heroes! If you or someone you know can make a donation of any size, please do so here.
