Hey John -
The AYD Executive Board continues to work diligently to make sure that our members can stay engaged in the political process during this time. This past week we held one of our weekly virtual movie nights as well as a town hall with Dr. Eric Feigl-Ding on COVID-19 and updates from the medical field.
In addition, we are still accepting donations for our AYD Community Fund to help provide relief for our community. Are you able to give $5 or $10 to help us hit our goal? Every bit counts and we hope that you contribute whatever you can afford.

The Arlington Young Dems have established a community fund which aims to assist local organizations on the front lines of COVID-19. While many of us may be able to work from home, there are a number of community members who do not have such a luxury. Over the next month, we aim to raise $1,000 within our community in order to support multiple organizations, from fighting the financial impact of this disease to increasing medical supplies for healthcare workers.
The AYD Community Fund will support:
All donations will be divided equally among the four recipients.
We’ve rolled out a section on the AYD website dedicated to giving the most up to date information on COVID-19 resources for the community. We’re frequently updating guidelines from the Center for Disease Control, pulling in resources from the county government, and adding in new community service opportunities as we continue to build a coalition for good. Here are some of the resources on our site:
If you have any questions, concerns, or comments, please reach out to our president, Dan Matthews, at [email protected]
AYD Weekly Community Highlight
ARLnow: Police, Fire Personnel Show Up to Hospital to Cheer Workers On
“Every day public safety personnel are out in the community doing their jobs, they risk exposure to the deadly virus. Even taking all the safety precautions, cops and firefighters in Arlington and elsewhere are getting sick.
But that didn’t stop ACPD and ACFD personnel from showing up at Virginia Hospital Center last night and cheering on those other heroes of the pandemic — healthcare workers — amid growing hospitalizations in the county.” -ARLnow.com
AYD appreciates ACPD, ACFD, and all the Healthcare heroes during this pandemic!
