Donald Trump and his Republican allies are using the pandemic as an excuse to achieve long-held, massively unpopular goals. From defunding Social Security to privatizing the postal service, they're in no hurry for this crisis to end until they've fully looted our country.

Social Security Works is fighting to save our Postal Service―one of the few American institutions as universally beloved as Social Security! Chip in to help!

Michael's email below lays out how critical the postal service is for older Americans. Read it, and pitch in!

--MICHAEL'S EMAIL--

John,

We need a fair election in November. We can’t have that if Americans are forced to wait in lines amid a pandemic.

We need Vote by Mail. Especially for seniors.

But Donald Trump is threatening to veto any funding Congress passes for the Postal Service―which could lead to the destruction and privatization of the US Postal Service!

Social Security Works is fighting to save our Postal Service―one of the few American institutions as universally beloved as Social Security! Chip in to help!

Like our Social Security system, the USPS has been built over generations into a simple, universal system that forms an invisible backbone of American infrastructure. Like Social Security, it is self-funding. The USPS should not be in crisis today, but it is because Republicans have enacted onerous, anti-competitive regulations over the past 15 years―including forcing the USPS to pre-fund decades of health and retirement benefits unnecessarily.

The USPS is especially valuable for seniors, who are less likely to have internet access, and are more likely to live on a fixed income. Profit-seeking corporations like FedEx and UPS will never match the efficiency of a fifty-five cent first class stamp, meaning that the cost for seniors who pay bills by mail will skyrocket. And if returning a mail-in ballot costs $15, many seniors simply won’t vote.

This is all part of Donald Trump’s war on seniors, which includes attempting to defund Social Security, privatize Medicare, and keep seniors from accessing their $1,200 stimulus funds. We’re fighting back―and winning! Help fight back today!
