Congresswoman Lesko Weekly Update

It was another busy week in Washington! I would like to encourage you to share this newsletter with others. Please direct them using this link and encourage them to subscribe.

Lesko Meetings

It was great meeting with the Arizona Builders Alliance to talk about important ways Congress can help improve the construction and infrastructure industry for Arizona builders.

It was insightful to meet with Theragen to discuss recent changes made by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services that may negatively affect their innovative medical device that helps patients recover from surgery.

I was honored to receive an award from the Family Research Council for my 100% voting record in favor of family values. I’ll always vote to protect, defend, and uplift American families and the values that make them so special.

If 23 Americans had tested positive for banned substances, I’m pretty sure the United States would have been investigated – unlike CHINA! Don’t you agree?

Listen to my thoughts on this and more at the House Energy and Commerce Committee's Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee as we head into the 2024 Olympics.

Our national debt is OUT OF CONTROL! As we make budgeting decisions for FY25, we must ensure we’re being responsible with YOUR tax $$$. This week, we discussed the Department of Commerce budget at a House Energy and Commerce Committee Innovation, Data, and Commerce Subcommittee hearing.

Get the Facts: BBQ Bidenflation

As people across the country prepare for Fourth of July BBQs, the spread might be looking a bit bare this year. The American Farm Bureau has already reported Americans will pay more this year than ever before due to record high prices at the grocery store. In 2021, the average cost of a Fourth of July BBQ for ten people was just $59.50, this year, it’s $71.22. That’s an increase of nearly 20% since President Biden’s first year in office. Not only will hosting the BBQ cost a lot, but with the price of gasoline being up 55.3% since Biden took office, it’ll also be a lot more expensive for your guests to even get there. With a financial burden that high, Fourth of July BBQs might be looking a bit different this year, especially considering the tough spot American families are already in with inflation so high. Compared to three years ago, the average American is spending $12,800 more annually due to Bidenflation. This is completely unsustainable, and we must turn this ship around and take control of the cost-of-living crisis.

Casework Highlight

A constituent had overcontributed to their retirement account and was owed a refund. The Office of Personnel Management (OPM), who is responsible for managing the account, was not providing an update or providing the refund. We contacted OPM and identified the issue to them which resulted in the constituent receiving their refund.

Military Academy Nominations

As a member of Congress, I have the privilege of nominating a limited number of people to four of the five service academies. This would include nominating candidates for appointment to the U.S. Military Academy (West Point), the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. The fifth service academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy does not require a congressional nomination for appointment. For more information click here.
