Dear friend,
I am sure, that like us at Centre, you have had a whirlwind month in the run up to the election. In amidst the debates and press stunts we have had our first chance to review manifesto pledges from the major political parties. With mental health still not high enough on the political agenda we, along with over 70 endorsers of A Mentally Heathier Nation, are calling on all candidates to prioritise support, equality and prevention in their bids to be our representatives in the incoming government. Join our campaign by emailing your candidates using our template.
Alongside the election activities we have also been celebrating Pride month, with blogs on books that make the LGBTQ+ canon, and experiences of queer identity and asexuality. We’ve also highlighted how transphobia in public debate is putting people’s mental health at risk.
Members of the queer community have long been champions of social justice and equality for all, and each year it is a joy to celebrate the progress that has been made as well as the work still needed to improve the lives of LGBTQ+ people, including their mental health.
