Hi friend, This is Craig Sicknick. My brother, US Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick, died on January 7, 2021, hours after being attacked by MAGA insurrectionists and suffering a series of strokes. That’s him in this photo:
Ever since Brian’s death, my family and I have been doing everything we can to call attention to the Republican Party’s continued full-throated support for Donald Trump, the power-hungry demagogue who cares only for himself, and who is ultimately responsible for my brother’s death. So when I learned that Mikie Sherrill would be facing a GOP opponent who embraced Donald Trump’s Big Lie and joined the insurrectionists at the Capitol, I knew I needed to help. That’s why I’m writing to you today.
Mikie Sherrill is a true patriot for standing up to protect our democracy. But Mikie’s GOP opponent, Joseph Belnome, is a hypocrite. He openly embraces Donald Trump’s outrageous policies and violent rhetoric, and was part of the mob that killed my brother. Belnome, like Trump, has no honor or integrity and should never hold public office. Belnome knows that his actions are indefensible, so he scrubbed the internet of his social media photos and posts where he proudly smiled with insurrectionists and called those who defend our Constitution, like Mikie, “enemies of the people.” His actions, his rhetoric, and his presence on the ballot are an insult to my brother’s memory and to those who lost their lives defending the Capitol from Trump’s insurrectionists. He — and MAGA extremists just like him — must be defeated. Our democracy is far too important to allow misguided cultists like him anywhere near public office.
