Governor Roy Cooper here. In a moment, I’m going to ask you to please join me in supporting our party’s nominee for State Treasurer, Wesley Harris—but first, I want to tell you about why Wesley’s race is so critical for our state.
Over the last fifteen years of Republican control, they’ve used their power to roll back people’s basic rights, draw electoral maps for their own partisan gain and push an extreme, hyper-partisan culture war agenda.
I’ve spent two terms as Governor fighting for the people of North Carolina — and as our party’s nominee for State Treasurer, Wesley Harris will continue that work.
When Wesley ran for legislature in 2018, not only did he flip a Republican-held seat and help us break the supermajority — he became the first ever Democrat to represent District 105. During his time in the legislature, he’s been one of our party’s most effective communicators on economic issues, helping to expose the ways that the Republican Party’s fiscal negligence is failing our state and presenting our shared vision to voters: one that puts working families and our communities first.
Wesley understands that taking our state back isn’t an inevitability. It will come down to where we choose to spend our time and how we invest our resources.
I was happy to learn that Wesley was planning to step up and run for State Treasurer this year—because not only is it an excellent fit for his fiscal policy chops, but because I know that we’ve always been able to count on Wesley to run a campaign that uplifts not just himself, but every Democrat on the ballot.
But we know this isn’t going to be easy.
