I'd like to do things to help fight for fair maps aside from donating money. - Alix, New York
Here are three you can do right now:
- Click here to contact Congress and demand safe elections. Our success in achieving fair maps in 2021 hinges on having good actors listen to our feedback. If map manipulators are able to use the public health emergency to suppress the vote in 2020, that can't happen.
- Click here to join our volunteer team. You'll receive an exclusive weekly newsletter from us and you'll get more targeted emails about volunteer opportunities in your state.
- Follow us on social media. We're active on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. Sharing our content with your network is a good way to educate your community about the redistricting fight. We often share and lift up the most relevant volunteer actions on these channels, too!
I donate occasionally to NDRC (is this the same as AOTL)? - Nancy, Missouri
That's a great question. The National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC) and All On The Line (AOTL) are affiliated organizations but have different roles in the fight for fair maps. The NDRC has been helping elect fair map advocates across the country since its founding in 2017. It's focused on holding map manipulators accountable at the ballot box.
AOTL's core focus is public education, advocacy, and organizing. We are building a volunteer network that will explain redistricting to their communities, put pressure on legislators, and participate in public hearings. AOTL is the citizen-led movement that holds politicians accountable to a transparent process that results in fair maps. Our prep work has to start now because redistricting begins in 2021.
It feels like I receive too many emails. Fundraising requests would be more successful for me if they were less frequent and more targeted. - Noah, California
Look, I get it. I feel where Noah -- and some of you -- are coming from on this feedback on a personal level -- my inbox is also stuffed with fundraising appeals from dozens of campaigns. I often talk with our digital fundraising team about changing the frequency and thrust of some of our emails. But I'm tasked with putting together a grassroots campaign on a budget, and at the end of the day, each email our staff sends raises real money we're able to pump directly into staffing, training, technology, and materials.
Our team tries really hard to make sure these emails are helpful, even if you're not able to donate. We pack our fundraising appeals with the latest news on the redistricting fight, details about gerrymandered districts, and information on state processes to equip supporters with the information they need to inform their community. But, if you'd like to receive fewer emails from us, you can find a link to do so in the footer of every email. And, since you've made it this far, I'm not going to ask this time. But I would love it if you considered donating the next time we call on you -- this movement is millions of people strong. I'm confident we're going to achieve fair maps because of each other and this incredible network we're building. Thanks for staying in the fight with me.
The feedback from our survey was enlightening, uplifting, and informative. Thank you to those of you who passed along kind words and to those of you who shared what they want to see us do better. Let's go!
