Hi John — Here’s something you may not know about me: I’m gay.

Pride Month is a time when we are supposed to be celebrating the countless qualities that make people beautifully different.

But this year, it’s tough to celebrate when extremist Republicans are doubling down on their hateful bills to target LGBTQ+ people like me.

They’re banning gender-affirming care for trans kids.

They’re targeting drag shows.

They’re silencing discussions about pronouns and LGBTQ+ history in schools.

They’re allowing religious entities to discriminate against LGBTQ+ people.

They’re forcing trans people to use bathrooms that don’t correspond to their gender identity…and so much more.

The recent uptick in anti-LGBTQ+ bills is not only heartbreaking; but also illustrates how long of a way we have to go to secure equal rights and protections for LGBTQ+ folks like me. And that starts with voting out every single homophobic, bigoted Republican at the ballot box.

I’m fed up with watching folks in my community be targeted, silenced, and attacked for choosing to live as their authentic selves.
