From 2015 to 2023, Congressman LaHood represented Illinois' 18th Congressional District. After redistricting, he now serves the new 16th District, which includes 21 counties across central and northwestern Illinois. Before Congress, LaHood served four years in the Illinois State Senate starting in 2011 and spent over nine years as a State and Federal Prosecutor, including as Chief Terrorism Prosecutor in Las Vegas. He later worked at a Peoria law firm until his House election.
LaHood serves on the House Ways and Means Committee, leading the Subcommittee on Work and Welfare, and is a member of the Trade Subcommittee. In March 2021, he joined the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, and in January 2022, the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party. Darin is known for his conservative leadership, LaHood advocates for economic development, fiscal responsibility, national security, and rural healthcare.
