Dear Friends,
As National Gun Violence Prevention Month ends, I want to recognize all the advocates who joined me in calling for an end to the nation's gun violence epidemic. It is inspiring to see this intergenerational movement grow nationwide. From community investment to common-sense gun safety reform, I will always work to end the cycle of violence.
Upcoming Events
This Saturday, I'm hosting a Privacy Fair in Matteson from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM for community members to bring sensitive documents for confidential shredding. We will also be sharing resources and best practices for preventing identity theft. Appointments are not required, but are recommended to ensure expedited assistance.

Matteson Train Derailment
I want to thank the Village of Matteson, our local first responders, and all the state and federal partners assisting in the cleanup of Thursday's train derailment. Matteson has been my home for thirty-two years, and I'm proud of this community's resiliency. I am working to steer available federal resources to aid our community as it navigates through this recovery phase.
White House Safer States Summit
This week, as part of the White House Safer States Summit, I addressed state legislative leaders from across the country who are committed to addressing gun violence. I reiterated that the path to ending our nation's gun violence epidemic runs through both Congress and our state legislatures. I am grateful to all the legislators working nationwide to keep our communities safe.
The Fight for Reproductive Rights
Monday marked the Second Anniversary of the Supreme Court's shameful decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, which took away the constitutional right to abortion. Since then, women's reproductive rights have been under constant attack, and people's bodily autonomy has been placed in jeopardy. I will continue to fight until every woman has access to the care she deserves.

Youth Investment and Mentorship
Investing in our young people is the best deterrent for community violence. I visited GRO Community in Roseland to learn more about their work supporting young men through job skills, mentorship, and mental health counseling.
IL-02 Veteran Housing Fair
America's veterans deserve to live free from housing insecurity. Thank you to the City of Kankakee and all of our community vendors for making our IL-02 Veteran Housing Fair possible.
If you would like to share your thoughts with me, feel free to visit my website. You can also keep in touch through Facebook and X (formerly Twitter).
Sincerely,
