Friends,
In a press release today, Rep. Bergman highlights his support for permanently raising federal wildland firefighters' pay from $15 to $25-$35 per hour, including paid healthcare and pensions, enhanced mental health support, and housing stipends.
"If firefighters can't support themselves and their families financially, we can't expect them to support our communities," he said.
Great! Yes. But what about the rest of the District? He's so close to understanding the problem but just doesn't get it.
I share Rep. Bergman's support for firefighters, but we need to take it a step further. The need for fair compensation for all workers is not just important, it's urgent. This is a cause that we must all rally behind.
We all deserve the ability to support ourselves with full-time employment and livable wages.
The scale of the problem is not just significant; it's staggering. Over half of full-time workers in Michigan's 1st District earn less than $25 per hour, and 27% earn less than $15 per hour. With about 337,000 employed individuals in this District, it's clear that around 178,000 workers are struggling to make ends meet.
That is why I am running for Congress: to help all of us, not just a select few, for your families, your freedoms, and your future.
Join our fight for economic mobility for everyone.
