Now more than ever, people are worried about our democracy and Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) offers a solution. RCV not only gives voters more choice and eliminates the spoiler problem, it reduces political extremism by ensuring winning candidates appeal to a majority of voters, not just their base.
FairVote Minnesota is at the forefront of this transformative effort and this legislative session we made historic progress as we worked to pass the RCV local option bill, giving all local jurisdictions the option to adopt RCV if they wish. While we did not get the outcome we hoped for, we came closer than ever before—falling just two votes shy on the House floor!
So now the most important step ahead is expanding the number of pro-RCV champions in the Minnesota House . Achieving this will set the stage for passing the RCV local option bill in 2025 and continuing the momentum for RCV statewide.
