Honoring Our Fallen Heroes
This week, I led the rededication of the Global War on Terror "Wall of the Fallen" Memorial inside the U.S. Capitol.
The memorial honors the brave men and women who gave their lives to defend freedom during operations collectively known as the Global War on Terror. The refreshed memorial, which displays the names of 7,054 fallen U.S. servicemembers, including 129 Wisconsin servicemembers were immortalized on Capitol grounds. The memorial will serve as a permanent reminder of the sacrifice brave Americans made and will act as a place of solace for all Capitol visitors.

Bolstering U.S. National Defense and Supporting Jobs to Wisconsin
Today, the House passed three amendments I authored to utilize Wisconsin research and manufacturing. Just as important, they can help keep our servicemembers safe. Wisconsin manufacturers are making critical investments in innovative and advanced technology used by our military. My amendments, included in Congress's annual defense spending bill, support that research and technology.
Given Wisconsin’s prowess as an advanced manufacturing leader, it should come as no surprise that a number of Wisconsin high-tech manufacturers, including SHINE Technologies and DBS Technologies, are likely to be active in competing for this funding. Much of the work could be done right here by Wisconsin workers.
Specifically, the amendments focus on research and technologies that improve pilot ejection seats and protect American military equipment in dangerous environments. These amendments make our nation more secure, protect our troops, and bring jobs and investment to our community.

Investigating and Helping to Relieve the Immigration Crisis in the City of Whitewater
The Institute for Reforming Government (IRG) released a new report after an investigation into how America’s broken immigration system has placed burdens on the City of Whitewater. IRG’s report shows in detail how the failure to secure the southern border has led to a cartel running illegal operations in our community.
In November, I hosted a roundtable with Walworth County and Whitewater law enforcement. We outlined the impact illegal immigration is having on the community and how the influx of migrants has included Mexico's Gulf Cartel infiltrating Whitewater.
To help deal with the influx of new arrivals to their town, earlier this month the City of Whitewater Police Department submitted a grant application to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Office. If the request is approved by the DOJ, the Whitewater Police Department would be able to hire three additional police officers.
To support their efforts, this week I called on DOJ Director Hugh Clements to approve the Whitewater Police Department’s grant application and provide them with the added support they need.
The safety of families and children in Whitewater is my priority. The added strain on necessary resources and the uptick in illegal activity caused by the border crisis is why I’m working to force the Biden administration to change course and implement policies that will secure the border.
This week, I joined Fox Business to address President Biden’s immigration crisis and the impact it’s having here in Wisconsin.

Congratulations, Mehlia!
This week, I welcomed Wisconsin’s First Congressional District’s 2024 Congressional Art Competition winner, Mehlia, to our nation’s Capitol. Mehlia’s artwork was announced as the winner of this year's competition last month for her self-portrait, A Representation of Me.
Congratulations again to Mehlia! Your piece is a vivid reminder of the impact our art teachers have on their students and the great talent of Wisconsin’s next generation.
