Paris Hilton joined us on the hill this week... Washington, D.C. - On Tuesday I voted for H.R. 6586, to oppose financial or material support by foreign countries to the Taliban, and H.R. 7089, the Global Anti-Human Trafficking Enhancement Act, which authorizes the State Department to investigate claims of overseas slavery and human trafficking. Wednesday began with our Ways and Means hearing on protecting our nation's children in the foster care system and solutions that will better serve American families and children from abusive and dangerous environments. Afterwards, I headed to our Small Business Committee hearing, where we continued to expose the federal government’s censorship of small businesses that offer dissenting political views. Later that day I met with members from TEXO Association, including two Texas-24 residents, GPaul Holliman and Tony Rader. We discussed Texas’ construction and real estate workforce as well as the Employee Rights Act, which I cosponsored. After, I attended Speaker Johnson's panel over the Biden administration's efforts to strip women and girls of their privacy and opportunities by rewriting Title IX. My colleagues and I are working to fight against this President's egregious changing of civil rights law. Thursday morning I joined my Ways and Means colleagues in advancing legislation, some of which I co-sponsored, that will improve access to healthcare including breakthrough treatments for patients who need it the most. As co-chair of this year's 2024 Congressional Art Competition, I had the opportunity to help celebrate talented, young artists from across the country at the Congressional Institute's art reception afterwards. I loved getting to see our Texas-24 winner's, Sophia Lou, artwork hung in the U.S. Capitol! This morning I voted for the FY25 State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Appropriations Act which included a few of my provisions to continue delivering on our Commitment to America.
