Rep. Troy E. Nehls Questions Secretary Pete Buttigieg Greetings! I wanted to take a moment to share with you a recap on what happened last week in Texas' 22nd District and the United States House of Representatives. This Week in Washington Rep. Troy E. Nehls Questions Secretary Pete Buttigieg at House Transportation and Infrastructure Hearing I had the opportunity to question the Secretary of the Department of Transportation (DOT), Pete Buttigieg, at a House Transportation and Infrastructure hearing titled, "Oversight of the Department of Transportation's Policies and Programs and Fiscal Year 2025 Budget Request." This week, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) report came out regarding the derailment of a train in East Palestine, Ohio. During the hearing, I discussed this report with the Secretary and questioned him about some of the findings of the NTSB's report on the derailment. I also questioned Secretary Pete Buttigieg about our nation's rail safety, specifically regarding the Railroad Crossing Elimination Program and the AskRail app service in rural places with lousy cell service, increasing the close call reporting system, and phasing out DOT-111 train cars, among other topics. Watch my full questioning of Secretary Buttigieg HERE. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Joins the Chris Salcedo Show Watch the full interview HERE. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Attends House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Markup As a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, I proudly voted 'YES' to pass the Water Resouces Development Act (WRDA) out of committee. WRDA would authorize the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to improve the nation’s ports and harbors, inland waterway navigation, flood and storm protection, and other water resources. This legislation would ensure consistent work on flood control, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure, ensuring people stay healthy and protect communities nationwide. This legislation will also create programs that will help with flood patrol programs, environment improvement, and maritime transportation. Ultimately, this legislation will benefit the economy, supply chain, flood protection, and more. Within this legislation, I secured many wins for the 22nd Congressional District of Texas and the State of Texas as a whole. If you would like to learn more about these wins for TX-22, please see the bill text of WRDA HERE. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Votes 'YES' to Pass FY25 Defense Appropriations Bill This week, the United States House of Representatives passed H.R. 8774, the Department of Defense Appropriations Act, which strategically refocuses the Pentagon on its core mission: delivering combat-ready military forces to deter war and ensure our nation's national security. I proudly voted 'YES' on this legislation. This legislation eliminates funding for the Left's radical agenda within the Department of Defense (DOD) and redirects funding to counter the People's Republic of China (PRC) and other foreign adversaries, fosters innovation, supports our nation's servicemembers and their families, and helps combat the flow of drugs like fentanyl that is currently pouring across our nation's wide-open borders. Specifically, this legislation: Prioritizes the fight against Communist China Promotes innovation and modernizes our military Provides for our servicemembers and their families by funding a 4.5% pay raise for all military personnel Continues to optimize the Pentagon's civilian workforce Enhances the DOD's role in countering the flow of illegal drugs such as fentanyl and synthetic opioids Supports our greatest ally in the Middle East, Israel Forces the DOD to focus on its core responsibilities Supports American values and principles Rep. Nehls Votes 'YES' to Pass FY25 Homeland Security Appropriations Bill H.R. 8752, the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Bill for Fiscal Year (FY) 2025, provides $600 million for construction of the southern border wall and provides funding to conduct removal operations for removable illegal aliens. This legislation counters our foreign adversary, China, bolsters our national security, and focuses the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on its core responsibilities by preventing the DHS from carrying out the Left's agenda or advancing critical race theory. H.R. 8752 rejects funds requested by Joe Biden and his administration that encourage mass illegal immigration and prohibits gender-affirming care, including hormone therapy and surgery, for detainees of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). I proudly voted 'YES' to pass this legislation. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Votes 'YES' to Pass FY25 State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Appropriations Bill The House passed H.R. 8871, the Department of State, Foreign Operations, and Relate Appropriations Bill for Fiscal Year (FY) 2025, which prioritizes agencies and programs that protect our nation's national security, safeguards our global economic interests, supports our allies and partners, and promotes democracy and freedom across the world. Specifically, this legislation strengthens our national security by combating the flow of illegal drugs into the United States and prohibits funds from being used to encourage the invasion of our country by illegal aliens. Furthermore, this legislation supports our greatest ally in the Middle East, Israel, and counters the People's Republic of China (PRC). This legislation eliminates funding for the United Nations' (UN) regular budget and prohibits funds to the Wuhan Institute of Virology, the EcoHealth Alliance, any gain-of-function research, and labs in nations such as China, Iran, Russia, North Korea, or Cuba. I proudly voted 'YES' to pass this conservative piece of legislation. This Week in TX-22 Service Academy Nominations Are Now Open My office is now accepting Service Academy Nominations.
