Dear Friend,
For three years, Joe Biden has done everything in his power to erase our borders – laying out the welcome mat for millions of illegal aliens to flood into American neighborhoods from coast to coast.
He’s waved in millions more without valid visas by abusing what’s known as “parole.”
And he’s granted de-facto amnesty to hundreds of thousands of foreigners already here without a vote of Congress – including from terrorist hotbeds like Hamas-controlled Gaza and just yesterday, another 300,000 from Haiti (more on that later).
The price tag is staggering – reaching into the hundreds of billions. Even worse, most of these costs are borne by state and local governments, many of which face catastrophic strains on their hospitals, schools, and social safety-net programs – which are supposed to take care of Americans, not a never-ending tidal wave of illegal aliens.
But it’s about more than just dollars and cents. There is also a human cost.
In recent months, Americans have been confronted with horrifying reports of brutal rapes, kidnappings, and murders of women and girls by illegal aliens in states far from our southern border – places like Maryland, Missouri, New York, and Florida. They come in on the heels of a case in Georgia that triggered national outrage earlier this year. The grim death toll has even made its way to our own state, where a repeat illegal alien drunk driver who wasn’t deported tragically killed a father of three.
In short, President Biden’s refusal to enforce our laws has made every state a border state.
That’s the bad news.
Here’s the good news. This week, House Republicans took another step toward ending Biden’s policy of carnage, chaos, and confusion by passing a bill providing additional funding for the Department of Homeland Security.
It includes $600 million for the southern border wall, $300 million for cutting-edge technology, money to sustain more than 20,000 Border Patrol agents, and resources to fund 50,000 detention beds.
The bill also cracks down on destructive Biden administration policies – restricting his abuse of parole and his use of resources to actively transport illegal aliens into our country, as well as a provision I put forward to withhold funding from so-called “sanctuary cities” – jurisdictions that refuse to cooperate with immigration enforcement efforts, and instead release dangerous career criminals back on to our streets to find new victims. You can see how lawmakers voted on the bill here.
I am confident that these resources will complement the already strong border security legislation I helped author that passed the House last year. And like all Americans, I am hopeful that the Senate will stop stalling and bring it up for a vote.
Thanks again for starting off your weekend with us. Wishing you a Fourth of July filled with beautiful fireworks, family time, and delicious barbecue – Happy Independence Day! We’ll be back in two weeks with our next edition of the Tiffany Telegram.
Sincerely,
Tom Tiffany Member of Congress

UN-believable
During consideration of the annual foreign aid bill this week in the House, I took aim at one of the biggest wastes of American tax dollars in the world: The United Nations. As we’ve told you before, American taxpayers are the largest single contributor to the UN – providing nearly one-third of its bloated budget despite making up less than 5% of the world’s population. And what do Americans get for their money? You may not want to know. Recent news reports indicate that UN employees participated in the Hamas terrorist attack on Israel. The UN also awarded a seat on the “human rights council” to Communist China, a notorious perpetrator of human rights violations and even genocide. But that’s not all. The meat-headed bureaucrats at the UN have even taken aim at backyard barbecues, burgers, and brats – demanding that Americans eat less beef, pork, and chicken to “reduce emissions.” That’s why I offered an amendment in the House this week to get Americans out of the business of financing the UN’s half-baked menu of dumb ideas by cutting off all US funding to this corrupt and scandal-plagued transnational organization. You can see how lawmakers voted on my amendment here.
Put the “T” back in TPS
We told you earlier about one tool President Biden continues to abuse so he can bypass Congress and provide “executive amnesty” to hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens. It’s known as “Temporary Protected Status,” or “TPS.” The purpose of TPS is to let foreigners already in the U.S. stay for a short time if conditions in their country are too dangerous to send them home due to a major natural disaster or civil war. There’s just one problem – these designations are almost never “temporary.” Nationals of El Salvador, for example, received this “temporary” status way back in 2001 after an earthquake. Those from Honduras have been here even longer – since a hurricane made landfall in 1998. Obviously, the effects of these disasters more than two decades ago have long since faded. In fact, both countries are now actively marketing themselves as luxury destinations for foreign tourism – advertising activities like whale watching, surfing, gourmet coffee tours, world-class beaches, scuba diving, and stays at posh, all-inclusive resorts. If these countries are safe enough to welcome tourists, aren’t they safe enough to welcome their citizens back home? That’s a question I asked this week when I offered amendments to put the “T” back in TPS – and end this open-ended amnesty scheme. You can see how lawmakers voted on my amendments here and here.
Red, white, and overpriced
As you start preparing for the Fourth of July next week, beware of Biden’s Backyard Barbecue Inflation. According to the American Farm Bureau’s annual summer survey, your summer cookout is going to cost you 5% more than last year and a whopping 30% more than it did just five years ago under President Trump. Joe Biden’s excessive spending and anti-American energy policies have caused inflation to skyrocket for all Americans, and it’s not something to relish. You can view some tips on how to save on your Fourth of July cookout here. From Christmas dinner to your backyard barbeque, as long as Joe Biden is in office his failed policies are going to take a bite out of your wallet.
Hot dog, Bidenomics is not working.
Committee Update
Judiciary
Not fit for trial – but fit for office?
As Telegram readers know, Special Counsel Hur’s report on the investigation into President Biden’s mishandling of classified documents determined that while President Biden had “willfully retained and disclosed classified materials,” they declined to file charges because of Biden’s poor memory and mental state. The House Judiciary Committee immediately issued subpoenas to the Department of Justice (DOJ) and Biden’s ghostwriter, Mark Zwonitzer, for the materials related to the investigation, including transcripts and audiotapes of their interviews with the President. Unfortunately, Biden’s DOJ and ghostwriter have gone to great lengths to prevent the Committee – and the public – from hearing what Biden said on those tapes. First, Zwonitzer tried to destroy evidence by erasing the audio files after he learned about the investigation. Despite being able to recover the files, Zwonitzer refused to comply with our subpoena, which is why we voted to hold him in contempt this week. The DOJ dragged its feet for weeks until Attorney General Merrick Garland asked the White House to assert executive privilege to protect himself from having to comply with our subpoena, so the House held AG Garland in contempt earlier this month. Not surprisingly, the DOJ refused to prosecute AG Garland. That’s why next week the House Judiciary Committee will be suing the DOJ to force Garland to hand over the recordings.
Natural Resources
Fixing our forests
This week, the House Natural Resources Committee passed a comprehensive bipartisan forestry package that I helped introduce, the Fix Our Forests Act. The bill was so bipartisan that it passed by voice vote in our committee. There are many great provisions included in this bill that will help return proper and effective management to our forests. Some of the notable aspects of the bill range from streamlined tools to expedite bureaucratic environmental reviews, ending frivolous litigation that delays important projects, expanding Good Neighbor Authority, prioritizing high-risk forests, and my ACRES Act, which requires land managers to produce yearly hazardous fuels reduction reports based on the actual number of acres that they treated. All of these provisions, and more, will lead to better management, which in turn will result in better outcomes for our land managers and our local communities with fewer wildfires and a cleaner environment. I congratulate Chairman Bruce Westerman (AR-4) on getting this important piece of legislation through our committee, and I look forward to supporting it on the floor of the House soon.
Recent Legislation
Combatting Biden’s woke “sex discrimination” rule
By now, Telegram readers are aware of the Biden administration’s effort to force radical gender ideology on Americans nationwide – all on the taxpayer’s dime. The administration does not care about securing the US-Mexico border or reducing crime, but, instead, attacks Title IX and women’s sports. Recently, Biden’s Health and Human Services Department (HHS) redefined the definition of “sex discrimination” for health programs like Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance. This new definition would force organizations to provide sex-change surgeries. Providers should not be required by the government to perform these procedures, and taxpayers shouldn’t have to pay for them. That’s why I cosponsored Rep. Chip Roy’s (TX-21) bill to overturn this rule.
District Update
A “legen-dairy” month
I had a blast making pancakes at the Burnett County Dairy Breakfast in Grantsburg. I want to thank the Peterson family at Four Cubs Farm for hosting us on their nearly 1,000-cow dairy farm where Holsteins milk themselves in 16 state-of-the-art robotic milking machines. You can read more about that process here. As we “moo-ve” on from Dairy Month, I hope to see you at some of the Fourth of July parades this year.
I had a great time at the Burnett County Dairy Breakfast.
Photo of the week
This week, I want to take the time to congratulate Dave and Sandy at Aves Clay in St. Croix County on their recent expansion. Aves is a major supplier to the taxidermy industry, including products like Critter Clay, and in January, they were selected as the 2023 Small Business of the Year in St. Croix County. Keep up the great work! If you would like to submit a picture to be featured in our photo of the week section, please email it to [email protected] with your name and location.
Did you know Aves products are also used in museums, such as the Smithsonian?
