A NOTE FROM CHRISSY Summer brings some great opportunities to explore the many trails, preserves and parks in District 6! I hope you’ve been able to stay cool and spend some outside time with your families as I have. From securing a big win for our local food bank to adding new faces to Team Chrissy, here's what I've been up to the last few weeks:

Protecting the House Intelligence Committee
I recently did something I thought I'd never have to do: Ask Speaker Johnson to remove and replace GOP Reps. Scott Perry and Ronny Jackson from the House Intel Committee. To put it plainly, these two men are unfit to serve in this critical role. I’m a veteran; I take our duty to those who serve seriously. We cannot allow someone who is under investigation for his role in the Jan. 6 attacks, or who is at risk of being compromised in any way by our adversaries, to serve on the very committee which oversees the intelligence community. This action has already made me a target of far-right extremists but I must be clear: the fight to preserve the integrity of our institutions and our national security is an important one, and I won’t back down.

Selective Service and the Draft
Selective Service and the draft are in the news a lot lately. Here’s why: Today, and since 1917, all men between the ages of 18-25 are required by law to register with the Selective Service. Not registering can result in a fine of up to $250,000 and up to five years in prison. Because registration numbers are dropping - due to the elimination of registration as part of the federal student loan process and the fact that fewer younger people are getting a driver’s license (where you also can register) - the federal government now spends $30 million each year to remind people to register. I believe there is an easier way that also saves taxpayer money, so I am supporting a resoundingly bipartisan plan to make registration automatic for men. I personally believe that this should also apply to women, but so far, that has not been passed. This is what’s being debated in Congress right now and why it’s in the news. I want to make it clear this is NOT a plan to reinstate the draft, and I hope we never again face a situation when that’s needed. Diplomacy and strength remains the best option for keeping our nation out of military entanglements.

Supporting the Fight Against Hunger in Our Community
Earlier this month, I had the opportunity to take a tour of the warehouse owned by Helping Harvest – the Feeding America member food bank serving our community members in Berks. This organization has been critical to the fight against hunger in our region. That's why I'm proud to share that I recently secured a $500,000 grant through the federal Community Project Funding Program that will support Helping Harvest as they construct their new community kitchen in downtown Reading. By supporting incredible organizations like theirs, I know we can build a better, healthier future for all of our neighbors.

Happy Pride!
This month, I am happy to celebrate Pride along with so many in our community! If you had the chance to be at Chester County Pride, then you know it was a great time. Berks Pride Fest is later this summer on July 21st. Hope to see you there! Now more than ever, shows of support like this are essential to building a world where our LGBTQ friends and family feel safe and welcome. Down in Washington, DC, I will keep fighting the far right's hateful attacks so our neighbors can openly be who they are and love who they love. Exciting Developments on Team Chrissy I'm so excited to report that we've recently onboarded our summer interns, which means that our field operations are ramping up! These dedicated young people are helping us to knock more doors, call more voters, and do more to engage the voters we need. You might even spot them in your neighborhood. Supporters like you make big developments like this possible, and together, we're building a team that can defeat the far right, protect our nation and our freedoms and elect Democrats up and down the ballot in November. That's all the news that's fit to print for June! I can't wait to share what I get up to in the months ahead as I fight for the needs of you and your family. In the meantime, happy Pride, and a very early happy Fourth!

There's work to be done,
Chrissy
