U.S. Army Corporal Elmer Vanover of the 200th Coastal Artillery exemplified the best of our Armed Forces. It was an honor to help the Vanover family achieve their decades-long goal of obtaining the Purple Heart and Combat Infantryman Badge for an American hero. On Tuesday, we held a ceremony for the family at Oklahoma State University. Read more here.
This week, I was joined by Speaker of the Oklahoma House of Representatives Charles McCall to kick-off our State and Federal Partnership Series: ‘Serving Oklahoma 101.’ These panel-style conversations included informative discussions regarding the role of state and federal leadership, their differences in responsibility, and how Oklahoma’s local, state, and federal leadership can work together to address many of the state’s most important priorities. We were hosted by the Stillwater Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday, the Shangri-La Resort in Afton on Wednesday, and concluded the tour at Northeastern State University in Muskogee on Thursday. Thank you to the hosts for their hospitality and to the constituents who came out to make it a great event.
Convergence OKC is located in the Innovation District, aiming to create connections between different industry sectors to spur more innovation and entrepreneurship in biotech, aerospace, and software engineering. I had the opportunity on Wednesday to tour the construction of their new facility. The main goals of their project include economic development, diversification of economy, and workforce development. Thank you to Mark Beffort, CEO of Robinson Park Investments and Megan Gelmers, Development and Investment Manager for your time.
It was heartbreaking to once again see the destruction left in the wake of the devastating storms that occurred across Claremore and Rogers County in late May. Recovery is all hands-on deck, as neighbors are assisting neighbors and living out the Oklahoma Standard in real time. On Wednesday, I visited Claremore to discuss how to maximize federal recovery resources and toured existing damage. I want to thank John Feary, Claremore City Manager and Dan DeLozier, Rogers County Commissioner for their time and their leadership. I remain confident these communities will build back stronger. I also want to thank Oklahoma Emergency Management (OEM) for their efforts to ensure this tornado qualified for FEMA assistance for residents and business owners.
