New Democrat Coalition Chair Annie Kuster (NH-02) issued a statement on the two year anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization to overturn Roe v. Wade.
“Two years ago today, the Supreme Court stripped women of their fundamental freedoms for the first time since 1973. In the time since Roe v. Wade was overturned, the American people have suffered the very real and painful consequences of this ruling. The tens of millions of women who live in states where abortion is illegal or severely restricted are less free today than they were over 50 years ago.
“Extremist Republican-led legislatures across the country haven’t stopped at abortion, but are also attempting to restrict access to safe and effective forms of contraception and IVF – showing their sole focus is about controlling women’s bodies, personal medical decisions, and lives. It’s impossible to overstate the devastating physical, mental, and economic impacts this has had on women and families across the nation. It shouldn’t have to be said that politicians should have no place in the doctor’s office.
“New Dems remain committed to redoubling our efforts to guarantee women have the right to abortion care and family planning. From working with our state and local governments to fighting for the Women’s Health Protection Act in Congress, we will not stop until the federal right to abortion care is the law of the land once again.”
