Dear John,

Earlier this week I spent time in Waterville and Northfield to survey the flooding damage with Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith, and offer my support to the communities affected – both as a neighbor and a representative. The floods have destroyed family homes and continue to cause significant economic challenges and travel disruptions. You have my commitment that I will do everything I can to bring in whatever federal resources are needed to help Minnesota rebuild.

I am also concerned that the Port of Savage is closed due to the river conditions. The Mississippi River port system is struggling and closed as well. My team is in constant contact with local, state and federal officials on this to ensure we can mitigate the impact of the flooding on our family farmers and regional economy.

Seeing the community rally together to support each other has been inspiring, and I want you all to know I have your back. As I’ve been in Washington for votes this week, I’ve been receiving daily updates from my team on the ground across the district to ensure we fully understand the communities’ needs, and I stand ready to take any action that will help those communities recover. I’ll be back on the ground in the district this weekend to survey the damage.

I will keep doing everything in my power to fight for the impacted communities until they are fully recovered.

Here’s what else I was up to this week:

Making Health Care More Affordable for Seniors

This week I met with AARP’s Minnesota State Director Cathy McLeer and State President Jim Scheibel to discuss how we can ensure Minnesota’s seniors have affordable access to the health care they need. Getting affordable healthcare that works for seniors in Minnesota is an important part of my job in Congress.

Protecting Workers’ Rights

On Tuesday I met with the Communications Workers of America in my DC office, and we had a productive conversation about the work their members do in industries across Minnesota and their role in keeping our communities connected. Workers deserve to be treated fairly, and I will continue to do what I can to ensure their needs are met.

Visiting With Small Business Owners in Savage

Great to meet with father and son Nick and Nicholas to hear about Drymate, their small business in Savage. Small businesses are critical for our state’s economy, and Congress needs to act like it.

I wrote the bill to cut taxes for small businesses and small business owners, and I’ll keep working to ensure all our local businesses have what they need to succeed. We have some cool new mats to share with visitors when they are in Washington as well.

Behind the Scenes with Rep. Craig

Wednesday night was the annual Congressional Women’s Softball Game! Every year a bipartisan group of Congresswomen play against the Press Corps to raise money for the Young Survival Coalition, an organization dedicated to young adults diagnosed with breast cancer. I love playing for such a great cause, and collectively this year we raised over $670,000!

I defended home plate as catcher, had a stint at first base and scored a run! Unfortunately, we lost 9-4, but there’s always next year.

I’m excited to be back home in Minnesota next week. Wishing you and your families a safe and enjoyable weekend, and Happy 4th of July in advance.

Until next time,
