After multiple, deadly decisions from the Supreme Court, it ruled last week to keep guns out of the hands of domestic abusers. This ruling in favor of common sense gun laws will save lives, friend, and it will stop families from experiencing the grief of losing a loved one, like mine did. But in order to end our nation's gun violence epidemic, we need more action. Will you respond to Brady's urgent poll now and show our lawmakers that the American people need change now?

In the past two years, the Supreme Court has handed down deadly decisions, including last week’s decision to put bump stocks back on the street. But last week, they finally ruled on the side of safety for the American people:
In U.S. v. Rahimi, the Court upheld the federal prohibition on firearms by individuals subject to qualifying domestic violence restraining orders – in short, their decision will keep guns out of the hands of domestic abusers.

This is the kind of critical victory Brady fights for every day and one that means a lot to me. The Supreme Court’s decision will not bring back my mom, but their decision will stop other families from experiencing the same grief.
Twenty years ago, my mom was shot and killed answering the door of her home. It took nearly twelve years, and two more lives being senselessly cut short, before my mom’s killer was found and prosecuted. During the trial, we found out the man who killed my mom had a history of abuse and was subject to a domestic violence restraining order, yet he was still able to obtain firearms.
Guns are the number one weapon of choice for domestic abusers and I am thankful even this Supreme Court could side with common sense and against gun extremist views.

I want this decision by the Supreme Court to propel us even further forward in our live-saving movement. I want lawmakers to see an expansive majority of justices upholding common sense gun safety legislation and say “it’s our turn to do the same.”

This victory in the Supreme Court is a stepping stone forward in our fight to protect gun laws from gun lobby assault and expanding common sense gun violence prevention legislation, but it’s not the end. We must continue fiercely on the path forward and keep fighting for change.
