John,
Maybe you tuned in to the presidential debate last night, or maybe you’re seeing headlines this morning. It wasn’t the night that many of us hoped for, but now is not the time for inaction.
The reality is, there are incredible, inspiring candidates, campaigning for a future with reproductive rights and democracy integrity every single day. And they are a powerful mobilizing force among voters who are not excited about the presidential election.
When we engage voters around their local and statewide elections, they are more likely to vote, especially young voters. But we need the resources to reach them early and often between now and November.
Just before the most recent November election, Data for Progress found that voters in competitive Virginia districts trusted Vote Pro-Choice by a +19-point margin. Independent voters in battleground districts trusted Vote Pro-Choice by a +14-point margin. That’s compared to ‘Democratic candidates’ with a +7-point margin, +1-points among independent voters.
The necessary strategy is clear: we need Democratic candidates up and down the ballot to run on reproductive freedom – and they need support from groups like Vote Pro-Choice to reach voters who otherwise might stay home.
Across the country, our candidates are running in swing states and districts with opportunities up and down the ballot. They’re running for governor, state legislator, district attorney, and city council, and we know that supporting them has a reverse coattail effect to benefit the federal races.
If you’re able, can you contribute $20 to support down-ballot candidates who will help turn out young voters, benefitting the entire Democratic ticket?
With gratitude,
Sara Tabatabaie
