Dear John,
Among the many challenges of this moment of crisis is that we cannot come together physically to mobilize our communities for change. But we are learning to find new ways to take action together.
Over 175 people showed up to our organizing townhall on Thursday night to talk about how we can organize together to confront the COVID-19 crisis, both the miseries it brings, and the injustices it exposes: to protect workers on the frontlines, free vulnerable incarcerated people, support immigrants left out of stimulus, prevent evictions and homelessness, learn the lessons of this crisis to combat the climate crisis, and safeguard our weakened democracy.

There are a lot of new challenges to organizing in this digital-only format (as some of you who got electronically shuffled between the digital breakout rooms can attest)), but there are a lot of opportunities too. We may be physically distant, but there really is a new kind of intimacy that comes from processing our collective experience of disruption and anxiety on organizing video calls with kids and pets coming in and out of the frame.
We can’t come together in person, but that won’t stop us from working together to support each other and fight for a more just and equal future.
But as it turns out, digital organizing is still costly. In the last few weeks, our campaign has had to upgrade our new Zoom account three separate times to be able to host ever-larger mass calls to provide resources and ways to take action to our community. And our campaign staff are working unbelievably hard to develop new ways of organizing that bring us together at this urgent moment.
We upgraded to host a press conference to amplify the unfolding public health crisis in our jails and prisons, pressuring Mayor de Blasio and Gov. Cuomo to release vulnerable people who are incarcerated.
We upgraded to accommodate the nearly 3,000 people who signed up for our webinar to help freelancers and artists apply for unemployment insurance and learn about available resources.
We upgraded again to get the breakout room capability for this week’s townhall to organize together for a just recovery and sustainable future. And you know we won’t stop.
The truth is that all of this digital organizing costs money. Our campaign has shifted almost completely to confronting the COVID-19 crisis -- and we’re able to continue to organize, advocate, provide resources like these thanks to your grassroots donations.
If you’re able to donate, and you appreciate the programming and advocacy we’re able to provide, please chip in $5 or any amount to our campaign so we can confront this current crisis and bring new leadership to citywide office next year → [[link removed]]

Thank you so much for your support. Please continue to stay home, stay safe, and be there for one another,
Brad
P.S. If you didn’t register for Thursday’s call and still want to get the recording and action steps, we’ve compiled it all together here [[link removed]] .
