Our fiscal deadline is approaching ...

DONATE NOW [link removed]

John,

I have some exciting news to share: Until the end of this month, your donation can now be matched THREE times, up to $100,000! Thanks to our partner, Porto's Bakery & Café, your gift can go three times as far to support groundbreaking research, clinical trials and new treatments for kids.

With over 1,600 ongoing clinical research studies, CHLA is one of the largest and most productive pediatric research facilities in the United States. And because CHLA is a research institute and a hospital, the discoveries happening here can be fast-tracked to the kids in our care who need it most.

With the support of this community, we've made major new breakthroughs in the last year alone, including:

* A potential new, less-toxic approach to treating leukemia that greatly minimizes the harmful short-term and long-term side effects. "This would be a completely different way to kill cancer," says Yong-Mi Kim, MD, PhD, MPH, a physician at CHLA and co-senior author of the study. "If it works, you may not even need chemotherapy." Triple your impact for pioneering research with a $10 gift. >>

* A new understanding of chronic kidney diseases in children that could point the way to developing new treatments. "We were a bit surprised and greatly encouraged. Finding what causes kidney podocytes to fail and lose their blood filtering capacity is a step toward preventing-and eventually reversing-kidney deterioration," says Stefano Da Sacco, PhD, investigator at CHLA and study senior author. Donate $10 to help find new treatments for children. >>

* A promising new treatment to significantly reduce the risk of hearing loss in children receiving certain types of chemotherapy. Approximately 40% to 60% of children who are treated with cisplatin, a chemotherapy drug, develop permanent hearing loss, a devastating disability that can lead to speech and learning difficulties. In a clinical trial at CHLA, children given a common antioxidant called N-acetylcysteine (NAC) were 87% less likely to develop hearing loss from cisplatin treatment. Donate $10 to bring new hope to families. >>

Every breakthrough or new discovery that happens at CHLA means hope for a family. That's what your $10 donation today can provide.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our partner, Porto's Bakery & Café, we are challenging this community to match their support and commitment before the month ends so we can accomplish even more in the year ahead. Every dollar you donate TODAY will have triple the impact in advancing life-saving research and care for children.

Plus, for every donation of $35 or more, a patient family at CHLA will receive a gift card to Porto's Bakery & Café! This is a great opportunity to make your impact go even further.
